I’ve been using the new Garnier Dark Spot Corrector Daily Illuminating Moisturizer, (R99.95 for a 50ml tube) for exactly 25 days now and am rather impressed with the results. I decided to give this product a good month (well almost) of testing before posting a review. Reason being that it’s impossible to see any real, visible difference before then –IMPOSSIBLE! These formulas take time to work and only after three months can the actual results really be determined.

I’ve suffered with pigmentation since I fell pregnant with my daughter 9 years ago. Although the marks have faded a lot over the years, they’re still there. The reason for this is probably due to the fact that I love sunbathing and indulge all summer long. I know, I shouldn’t – but at least I use a high SPF and re-apply it often!

Come winter, I’m militant about trying all these fantastic formulas that promise to brighten and lighten and love how much more even my skin looks. I promise myself, ‘no sunbathing for me this summer’, but, before I know it,  I’m on the beach and all my hard work has come undone. On the upside though, I have a great tan!

I’ve tried a zillion formulas that claim to reduce and lighten pigmentation and dark spots – some have yielded good results; others have made no difference whatsoever.

What initially excited me about this particular product is the fact that it contains 5% Ascorbic acid – that’s a lot of Vitamin C for a non-cosmeceutical brand. Vitamin C has a proven track record when it comes to brightening skin-tone and fading dark marks. But, because it oxidizes so easily when exposed to air, it’s integral that it’s packaged correctly. And this one is – it comes in a metal tube that will ensure the integrity of the cream is not compromised by air or bacteria from the fingers. Also, because this product contains salicylic acid, it great at combatting spots and keeping pores blackhead free.

I do think the term ‘Daily Illuminating Moisturizer’ is a little deceptive. In my opinion, it’s more of a serum than a moisturiser. For a very oily skin type it may suffice as a moisturizer, but any other skin types will most definitely require an additional hydration. It has a very light, refreshing texture that’s instantly absorbed and a very pleasant, slightly fruity aroma.

Over the three and a half week period I’ve been using the product (twice a day – am & pm), I can honestly say it’s made my pigmentation a lot lighter and far less noticeable. But, make no mistake; it’s still there. I’m going to finish the tube and report back after three months.

Given the products price, it’s fantastic value for money – I’ve yet to come across another formula in that price bracket that can even vaguely compare.
