I’m very inspired by the quirky character of the Balenciaga brand and couldn’t wait to try out their newest fragrance offering Florabotanica. Even though Kirsten Stewart, my least favourite actress (I think she permanently looks like she’s just sucked a lemon) fronts the advertising campaign, I’m undeterred.
The flacon (that’s fancy industry jargon for perfume bottle) is very unique and almost architectural in its bold simplicity. I adore the eye-catching black and white striped cap that makes the red glass side panel even more striking. I’m vaguely reminded of a Piet Mondrian artwork when I look at this bottle.
Although the fragrance is targeted at a younger audience, I believe it’s appropriate for all ages. I’m aware that sweet, (headache inducing) floral scents reminiscent of candy, cupcakes and peaches are the current trend in the ‘younger’ market – but thankfully Florabotanica has no such notes. It has a rather unique character – one I’d describe as fresh and green with a floral twist.
The opening of the scent is very verdant and lush – evocative of cut grass laced with a touch of fresh mint. As it develops it takes on a clean, almost soapy character that dries down to what can best be described as a sheer floral. I also like that it lingers on the skin for a good six hours plus.
It’s an easy fragrance to wear – one that would be equally appropriate for day or evening.
Florabotanica retails for R915 for a 50ml EDP and is available exclusively at selected Stuttafords stores nationwide.
