Whenever winter rolls around my skin becomes so damn dry. The reasons for this are varied, but as temperatures drop it sucks moisture out the air. This dry air, coupled with indoor heating, cold winds and scorching hot showers can cause the skin to dry out.
The feeling of dry skin is familiar to us all, it feels dry, tight and uncomfortable. It may even itch. Besides the discomfort, the skin loses its natural, smooth and glowing appearance. Instead, dehydrated skin looks ashy and dull and loses its natural skin tone, especially apparent in deeper skin tones.
When this happens, it’s important to tackle the problem quickly.
Here’s why: The skin is protected by its own natural defenses. It is shielded by natural oils and moisture, which keep it healthy and elastic. When skin is dry, this protective shield is compromised. As a result, the skin’s natural barrier function becomes less effective, resulting in moisture loss. If moisture reserves are not regularly topped up, the skin gets drier and more irritated over time.
With the above in mind, NIVEA have just bought their Repair & Care Lotion & Cream onto the market.
But there are so many body moisturisers, what makes this one SO amazing?
Firstly, it offers 72 hour relief for very dry and rough skin while deeply moisturising and repairing the skin. The formula contains Dexpanthenol, an ingredient that strengthens the skin’s barrier after just one application.
Dexpanthenol works to strengthen the skin’s barrier, restoring its natural balance and making it instantly look and feel well cared-for – after just one application! Dexpanthenol has been a revered ingredient in wound healing for over 50 years. When applied to the skin, this richly moisturising ingredient immediately gets to work, helping the skin’s natural regeneration process while protecting it from dryness.
Also included in the formula is NIVEA’S innovative Deep Moisture Serum that consists of moisture-locking lipids and oils. These ensure that the deeply moisturised effect on the skin lasts even longer.
In addition to Dexpanthenol and Deep Moisture Serum, the Repair & Care Cream has added 5% Urea. Now, in my humble opinion, Urea is one of the MOST EFFECTIVE moisturising ingredients. Here’s why: Urea promotes water retention. Due to its extremely hydrophilic nature, it’s very popular for its moisturising effect, holding water molecules in place. This helps the skin to repair and to protect itself against dryness and prevents moisture loss. Even dry and rough skin turns into noticeably smoother skin. Urea also helps to soothe and relieve the itchiness associated with dry skin and is often found in formulas for eczema.
I LOVE the lotion that comes in a nifty (brilliantly sturdy & well-made) pump action bottle. Both the lotion and the cream are quickly absorbed, non-greasy but highly nourishing and instantly relieve that feeling of tight, dry skin. Try using the formula overnight, when skin is in its “repair mode” and wake up to skin that feels healthy and supple.
Tip: For an even more nourishing effect, apply the formula onto damp skin after your shower (this will ensure it absorbs even quicker).
