White linen tunic dress R699 – BUY – Sunglasses R450

Today I’m taking part in the Poetry Stores “Dresstination” Campaign. Each week, for the month of September, the brand will be showcasing a particular style of dress from their collection. This week it’s my turn to show you all how to take a LWD (little white dress) from day into evening with the addition of a few accessories and one or two key items. All the clothing and accessories featured in this post are available at Poetry Stores.

If you read my blog regularly, you’ll know I love a LWD because – just like a LBD – it really is the perfect canvas to dress up or down. This one is made of linen, the perfect fabric for the warmer months because it keeps the body cool. How? Linen possess high permeability, which ensures airflow through the fabric and allows the body to breathe. If it’s a bit chilly, throw a denim jacket on and loosely tie a lightweight cotton scarf around your neck.

For a casual day look, I’d pair the dress with these tan and black leather flats R599 – BUY

Lately, I’m really into smaller bags that you can drape across the body because they free up the hands and arms. I like the distressed leather look of the cross-body bag below and think the punch-out detail adds an interesting element R1099 – BUY

WHITE FOR NIGHT

So many women avoid wearing white in the evening. I think, accessorised correctly, it can look so fresh and modern. For a night on the town, I’d pair the dress with this soft-as-butter black ‘Teagan’ leather jacket R3699 – BUY and a bold red lip to give the whole look a bit of an edge.

I’d complete the look with a pair of heels in a neutral tone. I adore the taupe coloured suede ones below R1299 BUY with their super trendy (& comfy) block heels.

I’d accessorise with this leather clutch that has a nifty strap you sling onto your wrist (R499) – BUY

How to care for linen clothing:

  • I prefer handwashing my linen clothing and ensure I only use a gentle swishing motion. You should avoid wringing, twisting or scrubbing the fabric.
  • Linen clothing should be washed in cool or lukewarm temperatures – never in cold or hot.
  • Use only a mild detergent (I use Woolite) for washing and ensure you’ve completely rinsed each piece of clothing in water before drying.
  • Always try dry your linen clothing on a flat surface out any direct sunlight, which can cause the fabric to yellow. Avoid hangers or pegs as they can cause marks on the fabric and deformation of the garment.
  • It’s best to iron linen clothing while still slightly damp.
